Zeitgeist: Moving Forward

Can you spare 2.5 hours with an open mind to watch an analysis of where we are and an alternative for getting out of our global mess? Will our children and children's children look back at our continuing insistence on hydro-carbons in the same way we look back at the slave system?

Watch on YouTube now or see below for the synopsis and trailer

Zeitgeist: Moving Forward, by director Peter Joseph, is a feature length documentary work which will present a case for a needed transition out of the current socioeconomic monetary paradigm which governs the entire world society. This subject matter will transcend the issues of cultural relativism and traditional ideology and move to relate the core, empirical "life ground" attributes of human and social survival, extrapolating those immutable natural laws into a new sustainable social paradigm called a "Resource-Based Economy".

Reclaim Control of Your Data

Credit reference agencies are unable to update YOUR data based on YOUR request without authorisation from the companies, as "the information they hold belongs to the companies who provide it and they are the data controllers." They subsequentely advised that "the Human Rights Act 1998 requires all 'public authorities' to act compatibly with the rights contained in Schedule 1 of the Act. However, the agency is not a public authority but a private company carrying on commercial activities. It follows that the 1998 Act does not directly place upon us any additional responsibilities or duties."

The financial institutions are also able to set their own rules for retention of data.

The UK Financial Ombudsman advise that they are unable to do anything and suggest contacting the Information Commissioner’s Office who advise that
* the information can remain on record for "as long as information is relevant for credit referencing purposes"
* there is no set time limit for how long this period of relevancy is

ICO suggest contacting the FSA for further advice. The FSA summarised response was that they were unable to resolve disputes and that I should seek legal advice.

Ultimately the irrelevancy and powerlessness of the FSA, ICO and Financial Ombudsman are quite astounding and to suggest that it is we who have to resort to legal advice in order to control our own personal data is frankly insulting.

If Tony Robbins is issuing a note of business caution...

Tony Robbins
If personal/business development "guru", Tony Robbins, is issuing a note of business caution, then surely we really do need to look at new paradigms of not only business but also for our personal well-being.  As one of the major players in transformation, Tony has dealt with some of the most influential people in the business world (listen to his short anecdote about taking some of them to Dubai).

As someone who has reservations about the "Law of Attraction/The Secret" phenomenon (and Tony has been at least of the fringes of this), I'm pleased and even inspired by this snippet of realism from someone who has an intelligent insight into human behaviour and challenges.

He just asks us to consider some important points and find a way to deal with potential major business failures and its effect on individuals. (A related resource is "Smile or Die: How Positive Thinking Fooled America and the World")

I'm unable to embed the video in this post so take a trip over to Tony Robbins' own site and take a look. However, I did find this

Inspirational Last Lecture Before His Death

Something to aspire to. He holds it together until the very end.

Sometimes when we near certain death, it will drive us to realize most things we take for granted in life. This is just word of thoughts to inspire us.

Below is a shortened version of his full lecture (about 1 hour) found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ji5_MqicxSo

Randolph Frederick "Randy" Pausch (October 23, 1960 -- July 25, 2008) was an American professor of computer science and human-computer interaction and design at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Pausch learned that he had a terminal case of pancreatic cancer in September 2006.
